The Vancouver Symphony was founded in 1919 and is home at the Orpheum Theater, and plays in 12 venues, with as many as 140 concerts per year. They have won awards for violin concerti, one for Best Instrumental Soloist Performance, and for Classical Album of the Year in 2008.

The Vancouver symphony is broadcast several times a year on television, and they have one of the most popular Christmas concerts for symphony attendees.

The members of the symphony are world renowned, such as music director Tramwell Tovey, violinists James Ehnes and conductor Jeff Tyzik.

The symphony has programs that are matinees for children and families to enjoy, with the Spectra Energy Kid’s Koncerts series, which children of all ages will enjoy when visiting Vancouver.  They also have programs that include classics and pop music, along with special concerts such as Lang Lang and Itzhak Perlman or the music of Final Fantasy.

The symphony holds programs featuring the music of Andrew Lloyd Webber, and a program with the Symphony of Style that is a luncheon and silent auction for the annual fashion show. This is where the latest fashion collections are shown and will be found in Vancouver’s premier clothing stores for women.
