Celebrate summer’s final days with sunflowers and the PNE Fair

Summer is winding down, but the fun isn’t over. Check out some of the events happening in Vancouver this August! 

PNE Fair

The Pacific National Exhibition is the place to spend the final days of summer. Starting on August 17 until September 2, immerse yourself in the traditional carnival fair experience. Catch shows from knights jousting to mechanical bull riding, to drag shows. Look at agriculture displays, watch cooking demonstrations, and dance to summer night concerts. And don’t forget the food. Gorge on all the traditional treats from corn dogs to cotton candy. The PNE Fair has something for everyone, buy online or in advance to save on tickets! 

Wild Salmon Celebration 2019

There is no other event like this. On Saturday, August 24, 2019, the Chefs’ Table Society of British Columbia is honouring the province’s iconic ingredient of wild salmon. Participate in one of the only outdoor high-end culinary events celebrating wild salmon and make your way through eight different food stations. There will be a tasting menu featuring dishes prepared by exclusive chefs, with only the finest B.C. wines to accompany the night. This is a 19+ event and each ticket is $60 - but the experience is priceless if you’re a foodie. Don’t miss out, space is limited, and tickets can be purchased through Eventbrite. 

Chilliwack Sunflower Festival

Have you ever seen the sunflowers dance in the sunlight? Now is your chance! From August 1 until September 15, the annual Chilliwack Sunflower Festival in Fraser Valley is back again. Feast your eyes on endless rows of sunflowers from 10 in the morning until 8 at night. If photography is your goal, be sure to check out the flowers during the days of special “Sunrise Openings.” On those specific Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, you can visit the sunflowers at select morning hours and capture the beautiful scenery in the special morning hours.
