This year Canyon Light runs from November 20, 2021-January 23, 2022. It’s open every day except for Christmas Day.
Grab a hot chocolate at one of the nearby coffee shops at Park and Tilford, and wander through thousands of lights and beautiful holiday decoration displays arranged throughout the gardens. North Vancouver has become a go-to destination for craft beer, with tons of breweries and distilleries dotted throughout the north shore. Not surprising for the historic birthplace of Canadian craft beer: the country’s first microbrewery, The Horseshoe Bay Brewery, was founded in 1982. Keep reading to discover three of our top picks for this stop on BC’s Ale Trail.
This family business was built on high quality beer and great service. And with a name like Beere, you know the brew is going to be good! The brewery and tasting room is located on the Lower Lonsdale waterfront in the Shipyards district. Sit outside and take in panoramic views of the city while sipping unique offerings like their Pinky Tuscadero: a zesty and smooth lemonade sour featuring locally sourced raspberries.
Working in small batches with a mission to push boundaries, experiment, and shift people’s perceptions of lagers, House of Funk offers up a fresh and unique beer menu. Every brew spends time fermenting in wood or is subjected to “an onslaught of wild yeast, souring bacteria, and other funky micro-organisms.” Located on the edge of the Shipyards district in Lower Lonsdale, the brewery also has a curated menu of snacks and seasonal small plates.
Located along Dollarton Highway towards beautiful Deep Cove, this brewery was built with its community in mind, with local and sustainable practices at the focus. Their Premium Deep Cove Lager won Gold at the 2021 Canadian Brewing Awards for its fresh crisp flavour and subtle grainy sweetness, brewed from locally sourced hops.
Holiday Inn North Vancouver is conveniently located and the perfect place to relax after touring the local breweries. Designed with comfort in mind, our North Vancouver hotel features a wide variety of comfortable rooms and suites outfitted with free Wi-Fi, mini-fridges, coffee stations, and large flat screen TVs, along with access to our excellent on-site hotel amenities. Make your staycation reservations today.

Farmers’ market season has arrived! Many of Vancouver’s most popular farmers’ markets run from May to October, which means you can officially start swapping your weekend trips to Safeway for trips to the local farmers’ market. Below, we’ve rounded up a few of our favourite Vancouver markets.
If you’re going to venture into Metro Vancouver for a farmers’ market, let it be the White Rock Farmers’ Market. One of the largest markets in all of Vancouver, it runs from May until mid-October. Located in Miramar Plaza, the White Rock Farmers’ Market is open every Sunday from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm. Here, you’ll find a wide assortment of goodies, from standard fruit and vegetables to soaps, dried legumes, pasta, clothing, honey, and preserves. This market typically sees as many as 50 vendors each week. And while this part is cancelled this year due to COVID-19, the White Rock Farmers’ Market normally includes a live musical performance each Sunday.
The Kitsilano Farmers’ Market is one of the most well-established markets in the city of Vancouver. Taking up residence outside the Kitsilano Community Centre, this popular farmers’ market is a must-visit. Open on Sundays from early May until the third weekend of October, this bustling market will typically have at least 50 vendors on any given Sunday. Here, you can expect to find fresh produce, including organic produce, along with meat, cheeses, and ready-made baked goods.
For a mix of fresh food and artisan gifts, look no further than the Ambleside Artisan Farmers’ Market. Located in West Vancouver’s Ambleside Park, this medium-sized market is open every Sunday all spring, summer, and fall long. It runs from 10:00 am until 3:00 pm and is one of the largest farmers’ markets in Vancouver, with anywhere from 40 to 70 vendors at a time. Beyond fruit and vegetables, the Ambleside Artisan Farmers’ Market also features jams, preserves, honey, spirits, jewellery, hot food such as crepes, and more.
No trip to Vancouver in the summer is complete with a visit to one of the city’s many farmers’ markets. And if you’re looking for a place to stay during your visit, we’d love for you to book a room at the Holiday Inn & Suites North Vancouver.

Cherry blossom season has officially taken over Vancouver. Each spring, the city becomes filled with these gorgeous, baby pink-hued trees, and 2021 is no exception. Signifying the end of winter, cherry blossom trees have started blooming all over the city. Below are a few of our favourite spots to see them.
Stanley Park is one of the most popular spots for cherry blossom viewing. Its central location and oceanside locale make it an ideal spot for enjoying these beautiful spring blooms. Visitors to the park can find cherry blossom trees near the formal rose garden and near the Japanese Canadian World War I war memorial.
The VanDusen Botanical Garden is a must-visit for tourists and locals alike, especially during spring. That’s because in the spring months, the garden’s stunning cherry blossom tree grove comes to life. In addition, the VanDusen Botanical Garden is home to a rare variety of cherry blossom tree known as the Shaughnessy, or “Beni-shidare.”
Last but certainly not least, everyone after a cherry blossom tree sighting should head to Queen Elizabeth Park. Located on the tallest point of Vancouver, this park is a great place to visit year-round. However, in spring it also has plenty of cherry blossom trees in bloom, which means you can enjoy the trees, as well as a view of the city and the North Shore mountains all at once.
Vancouver is also home to the annual Vancouver Cherry Blossom Festival, which has a whole list of cherry blossom-related events. In addition, their website has a “Blooming Now” feature where users can find a regularly updated list of all the spots in Vancouver where cherry blossom trees are currently in bloom.
If you’re visiting Vancouver this spring, then an afternoon of cherry blossom peeping is a must. If you’re looking for a place to stay while visiting, then we’d love to host you at the Holiday Inn & Suites North Vancouver. We offer comfortable accommodation, family-friendly amenities, and a convenient location near many picturesque cherry blossom trees.

The popular Imagine Van Gogh exhibit is finally arriving in Vancouver this month, after stops across Europe and Canada.
Imagine Van Gogh promises to inspire visitors to reconnect with Vincent Van Gogh’s famous artwork in a new and creative way.
The exhibition works as follows: Visitors will wander amongst giant projections of the Dutch artist’s paintings, including some of his most famous works. This immersive experience will allow guests to get up close and personal with every brushstroke, detail, and colour in his paintings.
Over 200 of Van Gogh’s works have been incorporated into the exhibit. Expect to be immersed in everything from Van Gogh’s sunny landscapes and night scenes, to his portraits and still life. The featured paintings include those completed between 1888 and 1890 in Provence, Arles, and Auvers-sur-Oise, for which he is most well known. Such paintings include Starry Night and Sunflowers.
Imagine Van Gogh was brought to life by Annabelle Mauger and Julien Baron, who utilized multi-projection and immersive audio techniques to make their vision a reality. Unlike your typical art gallery exhibition, the art featured at Imagine Van Gogh is projected in 90,000,000 pixels onto 600,000 cubic feet of space. There are over 60,000 frames of video in total, allowing the visitor to feel truly immersed in some of the most famous paintings in the entire world.
This once-in-a-lifetime exhibition will be held at the Vancouver Convention & Exhibition Centre. It opens March 19 and will call Vancouver home for three whole months, closing June 11. Admission prices range from $34.99 to $99.99.
As with all events taking place right now, COVID-19 safety measures must be followed at all times, which includes mask wearing and social distancing.
If you’re visiting Vancouver anytime between now and June, then a trip to Imagine Van Gogh is a must. If you’re looking for a place to stay while in the city, then be sure to book a room at the Holiday Inn & Suites North Vancouver. We offer quality accommodation, luxe amenities, and a prime location not far from the Vancouver Convention & Exhibition Centre.

Black History Month has arrived, which means it’s time to do our part to not only educate ourselves about black history and culture, but also support local black-owned businesses. One way to do so is by dining out (or in) at any of Vancouver’s incredible black owned restaurants. Below, we’ve compiled a list of three of our favourite black owned restaurants in the city, all of which are currently offering dine in, take out, and delivery.
Beetbox is the place to go if you’re after plant-based comfort food. This black-owned vegan restaurant makes all your favourites, including cheeseburgers, fried chicken sandwiches, and crispy gorditas, using 100 percent plant-based ingredients. They also serve a variety of healthy bowls (the peanut tempeh bowl is a must), and enticing sides like the kale tahini salad and fried shishito peppers. Plus, Beetbox is currently participating in Dine Out Vancouver (on now until March 7).
Head to White Rock for the best Jamaican food of your life, courtesy of PG’s Jamaican Restaurant. PJ’s Jamaican, which now offers delivery through their online ordering system, is open six days a week and offers all kinds of delicious Jamaican dishes. Dishes range from marinated oxtail and curry goat stew to ackee and salt fish (Jamaica’s national dish). Of course, you’ll also find jerk chicken and even Auntie’s fried chicken on the menu, as well as several vegetarian options like the coconut curry roti.
Authentic, southern-style fried chicken is what you get at Juke Fried Chicken. This casual kitchen and bar is currently open for dine in, take out, or delivery and is located in Chinatown. Here, you have to try the fried chicken (available in two pieces up to ten pieces), but there are several other mouthwatering dishes on their menu. These include chicken and waffles, sweet and spicy wings, sticky pork ribs, and an array of southern sides, like corn fritters, bread and butter fried pickles, all dressed fries, and crispy fried chicken skins.
If you’re visiting Vancouver anytime soon, then you have to eat at any one of the restaurants above. Delicious, affordable food is what they offer. And if you need a place to stay during your visit, be sure to book a room at the Holiday Inn & Suites North Vancouver. We offer quality accommodation, luxe amenities, and a prime location in Canada’s most beautiful city.

This winter might feel a bit long in Vancouver, but luckily there are ways to pass the time. From indulging in the city’s annual hot chocolate festival to going for a peaceful waterside walk, check out this list of things to do in Vancouver this winter.
Support local this winter without having to deal with the cold, rainy weather by ordering delivery or takeout from your favourite Vancouver restaurant. Local restaurants need our support now more than ever, and to make themselves more accessible, many who didn’t previously offer takeout or delivery are now offering both. Check delivery services like UberEats or Skip the Dishes to see what’s available. Or better yet, phone the restaurant of your choice directly and save them the fees associated with these third party services. Vancouver eateries currently offering delivery range from the finest sushi in the city from Miku to fresh, authentic pasta from Ask For Luigi.
Vancouver’s annual Hot Chocolate Festival is back, with COVID-19 restrictions in place. There are nearly 40 participating cafes and restaurants this year, offering up to a total of 87 new hot chocolate creations. Participating locations include Ladurée, Soirette, Honolulu Coffee, Butter Baked Goods, 49th Parallel Roasters + Lucky’s Donuts, and Minked Chocolates. Offerings range from 49th Parallel’s orange and dark chocolate Jaffa hot chocolate to Ladurée’s white chocolate, rose, and chantilly cream hot chocolate. The Hot Chocolate Festival is on now until February 14, 2021.
We’ve all been cooped up inside long enough. Now is the time to get outdoors and go for a walk. Take advantage of the quieter crowds in Lynn Canyon. Listen to some music or a podcast while you walk, or take in the sounds of the water and trees around you. In our opinion, there is nothing more peaceful than a winter walk in North Vancouver (so long as you dress appropriately!).
If you plan on visiting North Vancouver this winter, then we’d love for you to stay at the Holiday Inn & Suites North Vancouver. We offer quality accommodation, top-notch amenities, and a prime location near some of the top attractions in the city.

Are you a snowbird with nowhere to go this winter due to the pandemic? Then consider Vancouver. Not only is it in Canada, which means you still have access to healthcare, but it also happens to have a milder climate than any other part of the country. Beyond the climate, the city is filled with art, culture, quality dining, and natural beauty at every turn. Keep reading to discover a few reasons why you should make Vancouver your home base this winter.
What attracts many snowbirds to Vancouver is its mild climate. It has the warmest winter climate of anywhere in Canada. It is not often that the city sees snow, so if you’re someone that detests harsh winter weather, Vancouver is for you. In addition, the average daily temperature between December and February is around 7 degrees (much more comfortable than the -20 degrees that is so common in provinces like Manitoba and Saskatchewan). In fact, the weather in Vancouver is so mild you won't even need to bring your heavy duty winter coat or snow boots with you.
It is well known that Vancouver is filled with excellent dining options. From fine dining to take out or delivery, there are so many spots for foodies. A few spots we recommend include Forage, a local farm-to-table restaurant, Cardero’s for a beautiful waterfront setting and fresh seafood, and Jam Cafe for a delectable brunch.
Last but not least, Vancouver is a vibrant city filled with all kinds of exciting attractions and activities. If you’re into arts and culture, then check out the latest exhibition at the Vancouver Art Gallery. If you prefer spending time outdoors, you can still do that owing to the milder weather. Go for a run or bike ride around Stanley Park or even for a winter walk along one of the city’s many beaches. Alternatively, if you’re into skiing or snowboarding, you’re surrounded by mountains in Vancouver.
If you’re a snowbird who is currently stranded, then we recommend making Vancouver your home base this winter. Book your stay at the Holiday Inn & Suites North Vancouver, the perfect jumping off point for exploring this beautiful Canadian city, while escaping the harsh and snowy conditions of most other provinces.

Halloween is almost here, so if you haven’t already planned out your night it’s time to start thinking about it! Luckily, there are no shortage of fun (and COVID-friendly) Halloween events happening in Vancouver this year. Whether you prefer walking through a haunted corn maze or visiting a spooky theme park, check out the top three ways to celebrate Halloween 2020 in Vancouver.
Head to Port Coquitlam for one of the best Halloween events the city has to offer: Vancouver Horror Nights. This annual event takes place at the Giggle Dam Dinner Theatre, which transforms its nearly 7,000 square foot space for the occasion. This year’s event features the terrifying Xtreme Fear Maze, and the family-friendly Boogeyman Bash, where kids are invited to trick or treat in a festive maze.
This Halloween, Vancouver’s FlyOver facility (which simulates the feeling of flight) is hosting a special event called HowlOver Canada. This time, people of all ages will be invited to join Biker Mama the Witch on an unforgettable flight ride. There will be a pre-show introducing you to Biker Mama the Witch and her pet cat, Tiger Moon. After taking flight, you can head to the Flying Whale Waterfront Cafe for treats and beverages. The event is taking place numerous times throughout the month of October.
For Halloween 2020, the PNE Fairgrounds are playing host to a spooky extravaganza known as Slayland - Night of a Thousand Screams. Although the haunted houses will be closed due to COVID-19, this outdoor Halloween attraction will still include 20 rides, like the Wooden Roller Coaster and the Beast. Guests can visit Slayland every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from now until October 31. Please note masks are mandatory for all guests and costumes are encouraged.
If you plan on visiting Vancouver this Halloween, then be sure to book a room at the Holiday Inn & Suites North Vancouver. We offer quality accommodation, top-notch amenities, and even a special Staycation Package, which includes a two night stay and one staycation experience of your choice.

There’s no denying the beauty of fall, especially in Vancouver. During the autumn months, the leaves start to fall and the trees turn vibrant hues of red and orange. Take advantage of this fleeting time of year by spending as much time outdoors as possible. Below, we’ve come up with a list of our favourite outdoor activities to do in the fall. From visiting North Vancouver's own Maplewood Farm to going leaf peeping in Stanley Park, check out the three best fall activities in Vancouver.
Maplewood Farm is a must-visit in the fall, whether you’re travelling with kids or not. This family-friendly farm-meets-petting zoo is home to over 200 animals. Donkeys, horses, rabbits, goats, cows, and pigs can all be seen here. Normally, pony rides are also available for young ones, however, they are cancelled this year due to COVID-19. Further, Maplewood Farm is conveniently located in North Vancouver, a mere five minute drive from the hotel.
If you want to feel fall vibes all around you, Stanley Park is the place to be. Vivid crimson, bright yellow, and fiery orange leaves are what you will find in this waterfront park. Walk along the Seawall or surround yourself in nature by going for a walk on one of the interior trails. Either way, you can bet there will be photo opportunities at every turn.
There is no better time to visit VanDusen Botanical Garden than in the fall. Smaller crowds and plenty of gorgeous foliage is what you get if you choose to visit in September or October. Lucky for you, there are also plenty of flowers still in bloom, like heathers, autumn crocus, and hydrangeas. Plus, you won’t be able to resist snapping a photo (or ten!) in front of the stunning Japanese maple trees in the Alma VanDusen Meadow Garden.
If you’re travelling to Vancouver this fall, then you’ll want to book a room at the Holiday Inn & Suites North Vancouver. Even better, be sure to check out our Staycation Package, which includes a two night stay and one staycation experience of your choice.

Vancouver is an edenic paradise. With gorgeous scenery at every turn, it isn’t hard to find an activity to do outdoors in this city. One of our favourite activities is hiking. Exploring Vancouver’s many rainforests, oceans, and mountains is definitely worth your time. Below, we’ve compiled a list of three can’t-miss summer hikes to do right here in North Vancouver. Check them out!
Prepare for the hike of a lifetime. The Grouse Grind is a mere 2.9 kilometers long. Although this may not sound like much, those 2.9 kilometres are almost entirely vertical, which means you can think of the Grind as nature’s stairmaster! While challenging, it is a popular activity among both locals and visitors alike, with over 150,000 people hiking the trail each year. Expect it to take between one and a half and two hours to reach the top. Be sure to bring a camera with you, as you won’t believe the view once you’re up there!
The Baden Powell Trail is one of our favourite hikes in the city. The trail passes right through our neighbourhood, Vancouver’s North Shore, and takes you through part of Lynn Canyon Park. It is extremely well marked, which makes it perfect for both beginner and advanced hikers. The trail typically takes between one and one and a half hours to complete. On an especially hot summer’s day, we also recommend visiting Lynn Canyon’s 30 Foot Pool, a popular swimming hole for the locals.
Fair warning: Cliff Walk is not for the faint of heart. This daring hiking trail is part of Capilano Suspension Bridge Park. It is one of the newest activities the park has to offer, opening in 2011. This cliffside hike will take you through rainforest vegetation, all the way to a granite cliff face above the Capilano River. You can expect suspended walkways, as well as some awe-inspiring views. This is the perfect activity to do either before or after you walk across the iconic, newly reopened Capilano Suspension Bridge.
If you’re planning a staycation in Vancouver this summer, then you’ll want to book a room at the Holiday Inn & Suites North Vancouver. Whatever you do, be sure to check out our Staycation Package, which includes a two night stay and one staycation experience of your choice (you can have the option of choosing the Capilano Suspension Bridge as part of the package!).
There’s no better place to explore the great outdoors than in Vancouver. From relaxing on the beach to walking across the newly reopened Capilano Suspension Bridge, keep reading to discover the top three outdoor activities to do in Vancouver this summer.
No trip to Vancouver is complete without a visit to the Capilano Suspension Bridge. This 140-metre long bridge hangs high above the Capilano River in North Vancouver (in fact, it’s only 10 minutes by car from us!). Crossing the bridge is an amazing experience, not to mention a fantastic photo opp.
Enjoying sweeping views of Vancouver from Grouse Mountain. The Grouse Grind is one of the most popular hikes in the city, but be warned, it has “grind” in the title for a reason. While the average amount of time to reach the top is about an hour and a half, there is a whole lot of vertical involved (2.8 kilometres to be exact). But rest assured, the view from the top is nothing short of stunning. Plus, there is a Skyride gondola you can take back down to the bottom.
From centrally-located English Bay Beach to the University of British Columbia’s Wreck Beach, you can’t go wrong spending a day by the water in Vancouver. There are so many beaches to choose from all over the city. Jericho Beach even has its own sailing centre, where visitors can rent kayaks, sail boats, and stand up paddle boards. Not in the mood for swimming in the ocean? Visit Kitsilano Beach, where locals and tourists alike can enjoy swimming in the longest outdoor pool in Canada.
If you’re travelling to North Vancouver or Vancouver this summer, then you’ll want to book a room at the Holiday Inn & Suites North Vancouver. Even better, be sure to check out our Staycation Package, which includes a two night stay and one staycation experience of your choice (you can even choose the Capilano Suspension Bridge as part of the package!).
