Jazz it up for Free on Vancouver’s North Shore!

The Vancouver International Jazz Festival is taking place from June 22 to 30 – and its funky resonance will spread as far as the city’s gorgeous North Shore.
 
North Shore Jazz is a part of the annual jazz festival, with some fabulous ticketed performances taking place at the home stage at Capilano University Centre for the Performing Arts and at Presentation House Theatre.
 
However, there will also be a lineup of totally free, family-friendly shows at Civic Plaza, Lynn Valley Village and the West Vancouver Memorial Library.
 
This year’s lineup is eclectic to say the least – and here are three free shows you’d be crazy to miss…
 

Delvon Lamarr Organ Trio
West Vancouver Memorial Library, Friday, June 22, 7.30pm

Channeling 60s and 70s soul and jazz, the Delvon Lamarr Organ Trio fuses the distinctive sound of the Hammond B3 organ with groovy guitar and old-school pocket drumming. The Seattle-based trio is gaining notoriety as instrumental-soul revivalists.
 

Ayrad & Francois Houle Trio
Civic Plaza, Saturday June 23, 1pm

Morocco born and bred Hamza Abouabdelmajid brings Andalusian, Berber and Moroccan rhythms to his visionary musical union with Montreal vocalist and oboeist Annick Beauvais. The duo has become known for its raw, intense performances and experimental sounds – this is world music infused with reggae, rock and pop.
 

Mazacote
Lynn Valley Village, Sunday June 24, 1pm

There’s nothing quite like a free Latin Dance party to kick off summer! Mazacote is a hard-hitting six-piece Latin dance band, playing horn-driven beats from Colombia, Puerto Rico, and Cuba. Get your dancing shoes ready.
