Black History Month has arrived, which means it’s time to do our part to not only educate ourselves about black history and culture, but also support local black-owned businesses. One way to do so is by dining out (or in) at any of Vancouver’s incredible black owned restaurants. Below, we’ve compiled a list of three of our favourite black owned restaurants in the city, all of which are currently offering dine in, take out, and delivery.

Beetbox

Beetbox is the place to go if you’re after plant-based comfort food. This black-owned vegan restaurant makes all your favourites, including cheeseburgers, fried chicken sandwiches, and crispy gorditas, using 100 percent plant-based ingredients. They also serve a variety of healthy bowls (the peanut tempeh bowl is a must), and enticing sides like the kale tahini salad and fried shishito peppers. Plus, Beetbox is currently participating in Dine Out Vancouver (on now until March 7).

PG’s Jamaican Restaurant

Head to White Rock for the best Jamaican food of your life, courtesy of PG’s Jamaican Restaurant. PJ’s Jamaican, which now offers delivery through their online ordering system, is open six days a week and offers all kinds of delicious Jamaican dishes. Dishes range from marinated oxtail and curry goat stew to ackee and salt fish (Jamaica’s national dish). Of course, you’ll also find jerk chicken and even Auntie’s fried chicken on the menu, as well as several vegetarian options like the coconut curry roti.

Juke Fried Chicken

Authentic, southern-style fried chicken is what you get at Juke Fried Chicken. This casual kitchen and bar is currently open for dine in, take out, or delivery and is located in Chinatown. Here, you have to try the fried chicken (available in two pieces up to ten pieces), but there are several other mouthwatering dishes on their menu. These include chicken and waffles, sweet and spicy wings, sticky pork ribs, and an array of southern sides, like corn fritters, bread and butter fried pickles, all dressed fries, and crispy fried chicken skins.

If you’re visiting Vancouver anytime soon, then you have to eat at any one of the restaurants above. Delicious, affordable food is what they offer. And if you need a place to stay during your visit, be sure to book a room at the Holiday Inn & Suites North Vancouver. We offer quality accommodation, luxe amenities, and a prime location in Canada’s most beautiful city.
