The May long weekend takes place from May 18 to 21, and most people will have the Monday off. Check out the different ways you can celebrate the long weekend!

Get historical

The Fort Langley National Historic Site will start your Monday morning on the right foot - with the 97th annual Fort Langley May Day Parade starting at 11am. After the parade, stick around for the community fair, explore the fort and watch historic demonstrations until 5pm. Admission is $7.80 for adults, $6.55 for seniors, and free admission applies for youth 17 and under and annual pass holders. If you want to start the long weekend earlier, check out the Fort Langley beer and food festival happening on Saturday, May 18 from 12 to 6pm. This 19+ event allows attendees to enjoy the finest local finds and craft beer on the Fort grounds outside the palisade. For more information on all the events being hosted at the historic site throughout the month, check out the Fort Langley National Historic Site calendar of events

Travel back in time

On May 20, head to the Burnaby Village Museum and travel back to the 1920s. Celebrate Victoria Day as it was intended, in a place where pictures of King George V and Queen Mary grace the school house and the Union Jack flies overhead. The Museum celebrates Victoria Day in grand style with special entertainment all day long, including a parade and some birthday cake! Admission is free but carousel rides are $2.65 each. The event will run from 11:00am to 4:30pm, and more information -including a scheduled list of activities - can be found on the Burnaby Village Museum site

VanCAF 2019

Not feeling like travelling back in time? Explore other worlds at VanCAF, the Vancouver Comic Arts Festival. From May 18 to 19 at The Roundhouse Community Arts and Recreation Centre, gather for a two-day celebration of comics and graphic novels. There will also be the opportunity to check out an exhibition and vendor fair featuring hundreds of creators from around the world. Fill your time up with readings, panels and workshops all about the world of comics and graphic novels! Buy tickets and get a sneak peek at featured guests and what is happening over the weekend on the VanCAF website
