It’s an event locals look forward to all summer – the Pacific National Exhibition (PNE). And while the PNE continues to showcase some of its historic roots, it’s also bringing some fresh activities and foods to the Fair.  We’ve broken down some of this year’s must eat, see and do elements so you can experience the best of what’s new, that the PNE has to offer.

Food

Tried and true favourites, mini doughnuts and corn dogs are traditional fair food, but the gastronomic offerings at this year’s PNE provide fresh takes on childhood favourites and some zany new options. Light up your taste buds with smoking charcoal soft-serve ice cream, a red velvet corndog, milkshake burgers (including one made with garlic on top of vanilla ice cream inside a burger), a 1 lb. meatball, KitKat fries and more!

Music

The musical line-up at the PNE is extensive, crossing genres and eras. Why choose – just take them all in! Participating artists include Jann Arden, Dean Brody, Wilson Philips, Chicago, the Village People, Cyndi Lauper, the Goo Goo Dolls…and the list goes on. The Summer Night Concerts begin at 8:30 pm giving you lots of time to experience the Fair beforehand.

Shows

While the Super Dogs are always a great bet, expand your horizons by taking in a medieval-inspired live, unchoreographed jousting match with the Knights of Valour. Next, check out the Action Sports World Tour that features skateboarders and BMX riders executing aerial tricks that will leave you slack-jawed. Your schedule is sure to be packed because there’s still POPnology, ToonCity, the Dueling Pianos, the Street of Dreams and more.

Activities

The midway at the PNE Playland is an integral part of the Fair experience.  With 3 child-specific rides, 14 family rides and 15 extreme rides, there is something for all kinds of fun and thrill seekers. If you can only do one, we think that the Wooden Roller Coaster delivers the ups, downs, twists and turns to get your heart racing.

Opportunities to Save

Many days during the PNE have a particular theme and sponsor. For example, on August 21 or 28 (Tuesdays), come before 1 pm and get complimentary gate admission. Check out all of the special days and offers to find one that suits you.

Save even more at the Fair with a Pinwheels Coupon Book. Available at Guest Services, these books can be purchased for $2 and provide up to $350 in available savings.

The Holiday Inn & Suites North Vancouver is located just off Highway #1 and close to the Iron Worker’s Memorial (Second Narrows) Bridge providing easy, direct access to the PNE – a five-minute drive outside of rush hour. With its complimentary Wi-Fi, you can plan and book your PNE experience at the hotel, leaving more time to enjoy a great day at the Fair.
