On July 1, 2019, Canada will officially become 152 years old! Canada Day is a national holiday so many businesses across the province will be closed and transit will be operating on holiday schedules. Plan ahead with these special events happening in Vancouver for Canada Day!

Spend the day at Canada Place

Canada Place is the place to be this Canada Day. Every year, Canada Place hosts a free Waterfront Party with an assortment of musical performances, exhibits and food trucks from 10am until 6pm. The Canada Parade will start at 7pm, but it’s worth sticking around longer. At 10:30pm, celebrate Canada Day with a 20-minute fireworks show. Fireworks are the perfect end to any day. Some of the best viewing locations include Canada Place itself, Harbour Green Park, Coal Harbour, Crab Park, and Stanley Park near the 9 O’Clock Gun (a historic cannon along the seawall path). Check out the 2019 Event highlights on the Canada Place website

Enjoy Canadian classics at Grouse Mountain

The mountains will be alive with all things Canadian on July 1st. Visitors are encouraged to wear red and white and try out a variety of different activities. The adventurous souls can glide through the sky on the mountain zipline or you can swing your way through the mountain ropes adventure. Opt for a relaxed day and take in the views while riding the Super Skyride, or try for your personal best by hiking the Grouse Grind. In addition to all the activities, taste authentic Canadian cuisine such as a Beaver Tail or classic poutine! Check out the full list of Canada Day activities posted online.

Granville Island’s Canada Day Celebration

Knock two things off your to-see list when you go to Granville Island’s Canada Day celebration! Granville Island on a regular day is a great spot to visit, but on July 1st, the island will transform to celebrate Canada’s birthday. There will be a Canada Day Parade and official Canada Day ceremony with cake. Throughout the day there will be multiple food options, from restaurants to food trucks. In addition, there will also be live music, entertaining performers, art and a multicultural fair. It is the perfect spot for families with children, and more, with festivities happening from 8am to midnight.

Wherever you choose to celebrate Canada Day, Holiday Inn and Suites is your perfect home base. Whether you want to explore downtown, North Vancouver or the mountains, we are perfectly located in the middle of it all. Book your stay early to avoid disappointment!
